I Got Schooled By My Astrological Chart

I am a Sagittarius but I have never felt like one. I was convinced, since learning about my sun sign, that my mum was lying to me about my birthday. According to Instagram astrologists, I am adventurous, frivolous and void of responsibility – which couldn’t be further from the truth.

I thrive on structure, and knowing that I have a home to go back to. I like planning what I’m having for dinner, I like to put money away, I like to make sure that I’m meticulous in my life, because that’s just how I function.

These qualities are the literally the opposite of my sun sign, and it wasn’t until I delved deeper into my astrological chart that I realised that, apparently, there’s nothing actually wrong with me, and my mum wasn’t actually lying about my birthday.

I’m often skeptical of the generic Your Sign Means You Have X Trait social media posts because a lot of the generalised archetypes of Sagittarius don’t make a shred of sense about me and my personality. That’s when a friend helped me look up my whole astrological chart and talk me through what it actually meant.

As well as knowing the quality and element that your sign consists of, it’s also worth knowing your rising/ascendent sign, and your moon sign. All the sign placements within your astrological chart are determined based on the placements of the stars and planets at the exact time and place of your birth. Your sun, moon and rising are a small amount of your whole chart, but it’s a great place to start.

Finding out my moon sign is Taurus, and my rising sign is Scorpio has made everything about me make so much more sense. All my un-Sagittarius-like tendencies fell into these placements so well it was kinda mind-blowing. Meeting people and having inclinations to be more standoffish or judgemental is apparently all thanks to my Scorpio rising. It’s also where my need to prove my worth to everyone comes in, and why I’m so determined to make everything I create fantastic on my first attempt, in fear of failure. I always want to be seen as if I know my stuff and I’ve got my sh*t together.

My Taurus moon really makes sense to me. It’s kinda where my IDGAF attitude comes into play but also makes me more chilled and prevents me from getting a huge head. People with Taurus moons are known to like the familiar, cozy and stable parts of life. Sounds familiar right?

I’ve always been so curious about astrology, and really thought I knew what I was talking about. Turns out I was completely wrong and have only just really started to learn the ins and outs of my own chart.

It’s SO worth looking into if you’ve also been skeptical of this stuff, because even if you don’t come out of the experience convinced that astrology actually means something and affects your life, you’ll at least have attempted to understand the buzz around it.
